Marketing With Articles: Does It Work Or Not?

Published By Steve Shaw Google+

We’re working on covering this question, which you may be wondering yourself:

I keep hearing contradictory evidence about article marketing. Some say it works, some say it doesn’t. Some say there’s only three directories worth submitting to. Still others say it’s a waste because they don’t generate any traffic. Confused? You bet!

Article MarketingThere are several common reasons why a person may not see the results they are looking for (we covered some of those in the last post), but by far the #1 reason why a person says that article marketing doesn’t work is:

They have unrealistic expectations on when they can see results and what those results will be.

This is so common–a person starts article marketing with such enthusiasm and high expectations. They submit an article or two or three and think that effort should be enough to dominate their niche in Google.

Then they think it doesn’t work, and chase after the next bright and shiny object …

Of course, that is just not how article marketing works (or success in anything for that matter).

Instead, here’s how it usually does work:

Stage 1:

You submit a few articles a month (we recommend around 8 or so per website) for a couple months.

For this initial period:

You may not see much difference in your website traffic; You may not see any additional backlinks showing up yet;You don’t see much impact on your website’s ranking in the search engines.

Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?

It’s important to be honest with you – this is what it is like when you start marketing with articles.

Can you see why some people with unrealistic expectations would give up at Stage 1 and say “this doesn’t work”?

Stage 2:

You’re a trooper, and you stick with it.

At about 3-6 months you start to notice a slew of backlinks showing up for your site. These are the links that you have been building over the past several months.

(And remember, with our ArticleTrickle™ technology, it can take up to 90 days for an article to be fully distributed, depending on your settings.)

Interestingly, you may notice your website’s PageRank going up before you see any of your newly created backlinks showing up. This is why it is important to keep track of more than one statistic when measuring results.

At this stage, presuming you’ve been using keywords correctly in your article marketing efforts, you may also start to notice your website beginning an upward trend in the search engine rankings. (Again, it’s a good idea to keep track of where your website was ranked for your keywords right from the beginning.)

Stage 3:

Spurred on by this success, you continue submitting articles, and little by little, in fits and spurts and sometimes in large leaps, your website climbs the rankings in Google and other search engines for the keywords you’re focusing on, rewarding you with increasing amounts of targeted traffic.

Increasing the amount of traffic you get from natural search – i.e. the search engines – is in fact the main goal of article marketing.

(Traffic direct from the articles themselves tend to be ‘icing on the cake’ compared to the amount of traffic natural search can deliver to you!)

Guess how long it takes?

How long’s a piece of string?

It depends on your niche, the amount and quality of competition and so on, and is therefore an impossible question to answer.

It can certainly take a while to climb the rankings, but you should start seeing the effects within 3-6 months.

Guess how much work goes into attaining high search engine rankings?

You need to be consistent and committed to get high in the search engines – remember your competition wants a high position too!

But all it takes is a commitment to submit around 8 articles or so per month per website (that’s only a couple or so a week!) through our article submitter to get your articles in all the right places, and then once you are sitting pretty at the top, you need to keep on doing so to consolidate your position and continue to dominate for your keywords.

Is that the way it is for everyone, or is it just you?

It’s the same for everyone.

Guess what sort of SEO super hero would be able to get a high ranking in Google for his website?

Actually, dominating in Google is attainable for the average Joe with article marketing. That is why so many people do it.

Using, you can get high rankings not just for one keyword, but for several related keywords for your niche (grab my free report to find out exactly how).

The people who use article marketing are usually small business owners and website owners who have a life. They cannot devote their whole day just to marketing, and they do not want to hire a SEO ‘pro’ with dubious credentials for thousands of bucks to do the work for them. They need a tool that will allow them to market their website effectively in a non-complicated way.

The #1 reason why some people try article marketing and come away saying “it doesn’t work” is that they simply do not do it consistently enough to see the results they are after.

Knowledge is power–now you know what to expect. Now you know what other business owners who have figured out how to market their websites know. Now you can make article marketing work for you.
